Our Responsibility
At East West Connect, we understand that as one of London’s leading engineering contractors, our responsibility extends far beyond delivering exceptional building services and construction projects.
Route to Net-Zero
- Significant Carbon Reduction: The company achieved 0.65t CO2 emissions per worker, far below the construction industry average of 7.2t CO2, through decarbonisation efforts, including a low-carbon HQ and a fleet of Euro6, hybrid, and electric vehicles.
- Sustainable Engineering & Design: The company integrates sustainability from design to commissioning, using 3D modelling, off-site fabrication, and Victaulic pipework to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
- Carbon Reduction Plan & Training: A formal carbon reduction plan targets net zero by 2050. Over 2,800 hours of staff training in 2024 supported this, alongside knowledge-sharing with consultants and architects on sustainable infrastructure upgrades.
- Client-Centric & Environmentally Conscious Practices: The company tailors solutions to client needs with minimal environmental impact, using early surveys, advanced modelling, and smart logistics to reduce waste and emissions.
- Community & Staff Engagement: Sustainability extends to charity work, staff wellbeing, and environmental awareness. Over £55,000 raised for charities, with staff participating in events and volunteering time, while office initiatives promote eco-friendly habits and team spirit.
Resources
- Water & Carbon Savings: Hydrosphere saves 20 million litres of drinking water annually, with a notable example of over 4 million litres were saved in one project alone, reducing the carbon footprint by 6.5 tonnes.
- Eco-Friendly Alternative: It replaces traditional chemical flushing methods with a non-damaging, automated process that treats and circulates water without polluting or requiring an effluent license.
- Efficient System Cleaning: The process uses HydroFill and HydroClean technologies to fill and clean systems with filtered circulation, eliminating the need for flushing to drain and reducing cleaning time by up to 50%.
- Immediate Protection: From the moment of initial fill, systems receive corrosion and microbiological protection, allowing for early commissioning and long-term water quality maintenance.
- Industry Recognition: Hydrosphere is now recommended by BSRIA (BG/29/2021) and has been successfully implemented in live systems at Buckingham Palace, demonstrating its reliability and adaptability.
Systems Integration
- Carbon Emissions Reduction: The integration of advanced systems has led to a 19% reduction in carbon emissions compared to standard heat pump configurations, supporting decarbonisation goals in large buildings.
- Complex Heat Pump Integration: Integrating air, water, and ground source heat pumps into existing building footprints presents unique challenges, requiring bespoke solutions for each site due to increased electrical demands and heat recovery needs.
- Expert-Led Collaboration: The company has invested in integration specialists who work across design, controls, and commissioning to ensure seamless operation of diverse plant systems, overcoming issues like temperature variance and software compatibility.
- Live System Upgrades: Successful projects include, University of Sussex, Cottons Centre, The Gherkin and other works under NDA including a live international bank, where major upgrades were completed without disrupting live services, showcasing precise planning and execution.
- Strong Manufacturer Partnerships: Collaboration with leading manufacturers like Hoval and Daikin enables tailored solutions through technical workshops, factory tests, and shared expertise, ensuring optimal year-round system performance.
Targets
As our company grows, so does our responsibility to lead in sustainability. This year’s carbon reduction updates showcase our progress, priorities, and commitment to a greener future. Our 2024 data shows a 2% drop in emissions, and we’re targeting a 50% cut by 2030.
From hybrid vans to water-saving technologies, we’re investing in smarter, greener solutions. With SBTi alignment and the use of our third-party sustainability experts, Greenly, we are well on our way to achieving our net zero 2050 target.
Carbon Emissions Performance
As we continue to undertake complex projects in sensitive environments, we remain dedicated to transparent reporting, ethical business practices, and delivering solutions that contribute to a more sustainable built environment.
East West Connect are committed to a Net Zero future by 2050
01
We play a key role in one of London’s largest decarbonisation projects, supporting Britain’s journey to Net Zero.
We’re heavily involved in infrastructure modernization for large historical buildings in Central London, delivering innovative solutions from initial assessment through complete transitions to low-carbon energy systems.
02
We have reduced our own carbon footprint by using clear objectives.
We encourage staff to reduce transport emissions through initiatives including our cycle-to-work scheme, which has achieved 30% uptake, and an electric vehicle programme. We have also 100% degasified our head office by switching to air source heat pumps/ air conditioning.
03
We support our clients in decarbonising their buildings and reducing energy consumption.
We have expert teams who specialise in low carbon energy and energy consumption reduction. By incorporating proven greener technologies and sustainable materials—including PV solar panel installations, advanced heat pump systems, efficient chillers, and smart lighting solutions—we help clients minimise their environmental impact while achieving significant energy savings and enhanced building performance.
Since 2021, we have achieved the following:
Ourfleet now consist of Euro6, Hybrid, and electric modern vehicles
We savelitres of drinking water a year through the HydrosphereTM process
We’ve installedat our office and logistics hub to serve our fleet
Lambeth Palace Library shows our efforts for zero carbon usage
We use reusable systems such asto reduce waste and allow for future expansion
